1. Who can receive Valeda treatment?
Valeda is indicated for treating dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Patients must have been diagnosed with dry AMD by an ophthalmologist. The stage of dry AMD may affect the benefits of treatment. Your ophthalmologist will discuss your diagnosis and treatment plan with you.
2. Who is NOT suitable for Valeda treatment?
As a precaution, Valeda has not been tested in patients with known reactions to light exposure or a history of light-triggered central nervous system disorders, such as epilepsy or migraine, and these patients should not be treated with Valeda. Patients who have used any photosensitising medication, such as topical or injectable preparations, within the previous 30 days should also not undergo treatment without consulting their ophthalmologist.
3. Valeda treatment: What does it involve? Do I need any special preparation?
If you wear glasses or contact lenses, you will be asked to remove them before treatment begins. Your pupils will not be dilated for Valeda treatment. You will sit comfortably in front of the Valeda Light Delivery System. The practitioner will guide you through each step, and the procedure takes less than 5 minutes. Treatment of both eyes takes less than 10 minutes in total.
Clinical studies have demonstrated improved visual function in patients treated three times a week for 3–4 weeks. This is the recommended treatment protocol for patients with dry AMD. In a recent clinical study, patients did not receive treatment more than three times a week or more than once in 24 hours. If you miss a session, you are advised to make it up within the 3–4-week treatment period.
4. Valeda treatment: What are the clinical benefits?
Valeda treatment improves overall visual function, including improvement in vision measured using an eye chart and better detailed vision. Eye scans assessing drusen, protein deposits in the affected eye, have shown improvements in patients’ photographic vision.
5. Valeda treatment:What are the potential side effects?
Photobiomodulation (PBM) is a low-level light-based therapy intended to improve cell function. PBM has been used for many years to treat various diseases and disorders, with a positive safety profile. Clinical studies in patients with dry AMD have also demonstrated the safety of light therapy. Valeda is designed to be safe for the eye. Studies conducted for Valeda treatment
