CER-AI (Corneal Ectasia Risk Assessment Intelligence)is web-based clinical decision-support software developed for structured preoperative assessment of corneal ectasia risk in refractive surgery. It enables qualified ophthalmologists and refractive surgeons to view Pentacam tomography data, independent ectasia risk pathways and tissue safety checks in one transparent, auditable report before LASIK, PRK or SMILE. A separate module supports intraocular lens (IOL) category selection. CER-AI does not replace an examination or the surgeon’s decision. Official website: cer-ai.com.
Corneal ectasia is progressive thinning and forward bulging of the cornea after refractive surgery and is among the most concerning complications of laser eye surgery. The main way to reduce this risk is careful preoperative screening for keratoconus susceptibility and procedure-specific tissue limits. CER-AI is designed to make screening more structured, transparent and reproducible, and highlight findings that might otherwise be missed.
CER-AI does not merge the main ectasia risk systems into a single score. Each pathway is assessed separately with its own inputs, interpretation and surgical outcome, allowing the surgeon to see where the systems agree or differ:
Separately from ectasia scoring, CER-AI calculates tissue and procedural safety. A reassuring ectasia score does not override an independently triggered safety stop. Missing, conflicting and surgeon-confirmed information remains visible in the report. Decision-critical values that cannot be reliably read from an image must be entered manually and are never silently estimated.
CER-AI maps each risk pathway and safety concept it uses to relevant peer-reviewed literature. These publications support individual risk systems and clinical variables; they are not presented as external validation of CER-AI as a complete software product. For details, see CER-AI clinical evidence, medical references and corneal ectasia screening recommendations .
At Vizyon Eye Hospital, CER-AI is used to support doctors’ clinical assessment in preoperative corneal evaluation for refractive surgery and intraocular lens planning for cataract surgery. It presents measurements and risk information in a structured format; selecting suitable treatment requires examination and the surgeon’s assessment.
Laser eye surgery in Mersin and its preoperative corneal risk screening, together with cataract surgery and smart lens selection, are two separate assessment areas in which CER-AI is used at our hospital. Our ophthalmologistsinterpret the software’s information alongside examination findings.
CER-AI is a tool used only by qualified ophthalmologists, not a self-administered patient test. Suitability for laser eye surgery is determined after a comprehensive examination and the surgeon’s assessment.
